Roy John Ritter, 76, passed away peacefully at the Holly Manor Center in Mendham on Saturday, April 25, 2020.
Born in Elizabeth to Marion (Juresyck) and John Ritter, he grew up in nearby Roselle Park. Following high school, he enlisted in United States Navy and served for four and one half years on the USS Newport News.
After his service in the Navy, he married and moved to Bernardsville, where he lived for 39 years.
Mr. Ritter owned and operated Ritter’s for Men, a men’s clothing store, which also provided the service of clothing alterations to the community.
He enjoyed collecting and restoring Lionel toy trains as well as playing his guitar and singing songs from the 1950s and ‘60s. Those lucky enough would be treated to a performance after dinner at his home.
Most of all, he loved time spent with family and Sunday dinners. He was a great story teller and his sense of humor will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Amparo Sanchez of Succasunna; his daughters, Audrey Fischer (Kurt) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Krysta Dilley (Scott) of Bernardsville; and their mother, Rosemary Ritter of Carefree, Ariz.
He is also survived by two stepdaughters and one granddaughter, Beruzka Mesa (Olvin), Anyuri Mesa and Salome Osuna; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, John, and his mother, Marion; and a brother, Richard.
A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Arrangements are being handled by the Mastapeter Funeral Home in Roselle Park.
