Land Rover is electrifying the new Defender with a plugin hybrid drivetrain that’s also the most powerful model in the Defender range. Based on the 110 chassis, the Defender P400e combines a 2-liter inline-four with a 105kW electric motor and a 19.2kWh battery for a total output of 398 horsepower. This is good for a 0-62 MPH run in 5.6 seconds with fuel economy in the 85 MPG range — great news for anyone wanting to get the most out of their time off the beaten path. The instant torque from the electric motor means the Defender’s offroad capability will be even better, and standard equipment like 20-inch wheels, air suspension, and a Mode 3 charging cable make the P400e a complete package out of the showroom. Land Rover has only announced the P400e for the European market, but don’t count out seeing it in the US soon.
