The spooky season is drawing near, ushering in a handful of unique, Halloween-inspired collaborations from some of the style world’s most prominent brands. With so many high-profile companies on the hunt for seasonal sales, it makes sense that they’d turn to beloved IPs to bolster their clout within the space, especially in terms of footwear. That being said, the announcement (and subsequent disappearance) of Reebok’s Ghostbusters-branded “Ghost Smasher” sneaker has given us a reason to believe in “life after death.”
Initially, Ghostbusters x Reebok’s “Ghost Smashers” arrived like an apparition in the night, descending from the brand’s spooky shoe laboratory in an effort to suck our wallets dry. However, before they could drain our accounts of their lifeblood, the outlandish mid-top sneakers were pulled from the brand’s website. Not only were these fan-focused shoes at the apex of their respective genre, thanks to their classic Alien Stomper-inspired silhouette, green “Pump” accents, and contagion-esque wiring, but their devotion to the Ghostbusters theme continued, calling upon a detachable proton pack at the shoe’s rear. On the tongue of the Smasher, an iconic Ghostbusters logo became visible, accenting the shoe’s jumpsuit-like qualities. While these ghostly sneakers seem to have phased out of the plane of the living, they’re scheduled to return on October 31 at a price point of $150.
